The Aurum Institute is offering a great opportunity to suitably qualified and experienced staff to contribute towards our mission to improve the health of people and communities through innovation in Health Research and Systems. We are focused on research, support and implementing integrated approaches to managing TB and HIV. The following positions have become available as part of the various projects currently being run by us and you are welcome to apply should you meet the requirements of the position.

Work Description: The Pharmacist is responsible for contributing to the smooth running and operations of the Pharmacy according to South African Pharmacy Council, Good Pharmacy Practice and Good Clinical Practice Standards.

Development of and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures for the Pharmacy
Development of and adherence to systems for recording Drug accountability and temperature control
Ensure Medication is in stock and ordering of Medication and Study Product when required
Responsible for handling of Study Product according to protocol requirements and Good Clinical Practice standards (GCP)
Complete Study start-up activities
Complete Study close-out activities
Monitoring/auditing preparation
Developing of and adhering to quality control and quality assurance processes
Training of new Pharmacy and Clinic Staff
Supervision of Pharmacy Staff
Aseptic Techniques proficient


Degree in Pharmacy
Registration with SA Pharmacy Council as a Pharmacist

At least 2- 3 years Pharmacy experience
Clinical research or TB/HIV care experience
An Understanding of HIV/AIDS and TB

Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land or air if required
Drivers license and own car
Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, and routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics
SA Citizen or valid work permit to work in South Africa
Willing to work overtime including weekends as needed 
Fluent in English

GCP certificate
Fluency in local languages (Setswana, SeSotho, Xhosa, Afrikaans)
Aseptic preparation experience and/or proficiency training
